COUGHTON, a parish in the Alcester division of the hundred of BARLICHWAY, county of WARWICK, 2 miles (N. by W.) from Alcester, containing, with the hamlet of Sambourn, 926 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Worcester, rated in the king's books at £9. 10. 7., endowed with £400 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Sir Charles Throckmorton, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Peter.
