COXLODGE, a township in that part of the parish of GOSFORTH which is in the western division of CASTLE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 2$ miles (N.) from Newcastle, containing 633 inhabitants. A place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists and a Sunday school were built in 1819. There are several collieries in the township. In 1800, the grand stand for the Newcastle racecourse was erected here, near which is a reservoir for the supply of that town with water, which is raised by a windmill pump.
