CRANWICK, a parish in the hundred of GRIMSHOE, county of NORFOLK, 6 miles (S. E. by E.) from Stoke-Ferry, containing 70 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, with the vicarage of Methwold annexed, in the archdeaconry of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £8. 9. 7., and in the patronage of H. S. Partridge, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a small ancient building of flint, having at the west end a tower of similar materials, supposed to have been erected by King Harold, one of whose freemen possessed a moiety of this place in the time of Edward the Confessor. The river Wissy bounds the parish on the north.
