CROSSTONE, a chapelry in the parish of HALIFAX,
wapentake of MORLEY, West riding of the county of
YORK, ll miles (W.) from Halifax, with which the
population is returned. The living is a perpetual curacy,
in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, endowed
with £600 private benefaction, and £3300 parliamentary
grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of
Halifax. This place derives its name from an ancient
cross, which has fallen to decay.
