DENGIE, a parish in the hundred of DENOTE, county of ESSEX, 4 miles (S. by W.) from Bradwell, containing 234 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £ 13. The Rev. J. H. Stephenson was patron in 1825. There is also a sinecure, called Bacon's portion, rated at £4. The church is dedicated to St. James.
