DISSINGTON (NORTH), a township in that part
of the parish of NEWBURN which is in the western division
of CASTLE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 10
miles (N. W. by W.) from Newcastle upon Tyne, containing
65 inhabitants. There was formerly a chapel, subordinate
to Tynemouth priory, every vestige of which
has been long since obliterated. Admiral Sir Ralph
Delaval was born here; he died in 1707.
