DONYLAND (EAST), a parish in the Colchester division of the hundred of LEXDEN, county of ESSEX, 8 miles (S.B. by S.) from Colchester, containing 562 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £10. The Rev. Charles Hewitt was patron in 1801. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The navigable river Colne forms the eastern boundary of the parish, and there receives the river Roman.
