EATON, a parish in the South-clay division of the wapentake of BASSETLAW, county of NOTTINGHAM, 2 miles (S.) from East Retford, containing 215 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction of the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of Southwell, rated in the king's books at £4. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Prebendary of Eaton in the Collegiate Church of Southwell. The church is dedicated to All Saints. This parish is in the honour of Tutbury, duchy of Lancaster, and within the jurisdiction of a court of pleas held at Tutbury every third Tuesday, for the recovery of debts under 40s.
