EGERTON, a parish in the hundred of CALEHILL,
lathe of SCRAY, county of KENT, 3 miles (W.S.W.)
from Charing, containing 890 inhabitants. The living
is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of
Canterbury, endowed with £15 per annum private benefaction,
and £ 1700 parliamentary grant, and in the
patronage of the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's, London.
The church is dedicated to St. James. A fair is
held on the 5th of August. There is a petrifying spring
in the parish.
