ESP-GREEN, a hamlet in that part of the parish of
LANCHESTER which is in the western division of CHESTER
ward, county palatine of DURHAM, 9 miles (N.W.
by w.) from Durham. The population is returned with
the parish. There was anciently a chapel at this place.
