FISHERTON-ANGER, a parish in the hundred of BRANCH-AND-DOLE, county of WILTS, containing 1253 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £ 13. W. H. F. Talbot, Esq. was patron in 1804. The church is dedicated to St. Clement. There are places of worship for Baptists and Wesleyan Methodists. This place is situated on the bank of the river Avon, which separates it from the city of Salisbury; over the river is an ancient stone bridge, at the foot of which formerly stood the county gaol 5 the site has been converted into a market garden, and a new gaol erected on the road leading to Devizes.
