GLASTON, a township in the parish of ALDINGHAM, hundred of LONSDALE, north of the sands, county palatine of LANCASTER, 3 miles (S.E.) from Dalton. The population is returned with the parish. Glaston may be termed the modern port of Lancaster; it is situated on the river Lune, and has a spacious dock opened in 1787, and capable of receiving twenty-five large merchant vessels, the cargoes of which are discharged here and forwarded by smaller craft to Lancaster. A canal passes from the dock and forms a junction with the Preston and Lancaster canal.
