GOODNESTONE, a parish in the hundred of WINGHAM, lathe of ST-AUGUSTINE, county of KENT, 2 miles (S.E.) from Wingham, containing 432 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Canterbury, and in the patronage of Sir B. C. Bridges, Bart. The church, dedicated to the Holy Cross, is principally in the early style of English architecture, and was partly erected by the ancestors of Sir John Boys, the gallant defender of Donnington castle, who died in 1664, and was buried here.
