HANFORD, a liberty (extra-parochial), in the hundred
of REDLANE, Sturminster division of the county
of DORSET, 5 miles (N. W. by N.) from Blandford-Fo-
rum, containing 13 inhabitants. This was anciently a
distinct parish; here is a chapel in which divine service
is performed once every Sunday; it is the burialplace
of the family of Seymour, whose mansion is situated
on the south side, and northward are the foundations of
an ancient village.
