HAREWOOD, a parish in the upper division of the hundred of WORMELOW, county of HEREFORD, 5 miles (N.W. by W.) from Ross, containing 80 inhabitants2 The living is a perpetual curacy, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Bishop of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £1. 15. 3. The church is dedicated to St. Denis. The petty sessions for the division are held here every fourth Tuesday. This parish forme part of the ancient Forest of Harewood, in which it is said King Edgar assassinated Earl Ethelwold for his deceitful conduct towards the fair Elfrida. The earl had a castle here, the scene of Mason's dramatic poem " Elfrida."
