HAUTBOYS (GREAT), a parish in the southern division of the hundred of ERPINGHAM, county of NORFOLK, half of a mile (N.W. byN.) from Coltishall, containing 102 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £4. 6. 8., and in the patronage of Sir J. W. Lubboclc, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Theobald. A maison Dieu, for a master and poor persons, was founded here about the reign of Henry III., by Sir Peter de Alto Bosco, Knt., and dedicated to the Virgin Mary; it was subordinate to the hospital at Horning.
