HEMPSTON (BROAD), a parish in the hundred of
HAYTOR, county of DEVON, 4 miles (S. E.) from Ashburton,
containing 789 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage,
in the- archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of
Exeter, rated in the king's books at £25. 6. 8., and in
the patronage of the Crown. There is a place of worship
for Wesleyan Methodists. A charity school is supported
by donations and subscriptions.
