HEYFORD (NETHER), a parish in the hundred of NOBOTTLEGROVE, county of NORTHAMPTON, 7 miles (W. by S.) from Northampton, containing 422 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £8. 10. 5. The Rev. J. L. Crawley was patron in 1809. The church is dedicated to St. Peter and St. Paul. A school for the children of Upper and Nether Heyford, and all of the name of Bliss within five miles, was endowed by W. Bliss, with a bequest of £400, but at what period is not known. The Grand Junction canal passes through the parish, and on its southern boundary runs the Watling - street. Dr. John Preston, surnamed the Patriarch of the Puritans, was born here in 1587.
