HINTLESHAM, a parish in the hundred of SAMFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 4 miles (E. by N.) from Hadleigh, containing 562 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £33. 9. 7., and in the patronage of William Deane, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. Seven children are instructed for £ 10 per annum, the proceeds of land purchased by subscription; a house for the master and a spacious play-ground were given by the Misses Lloyd.
