HINTON-AMPNER, a parish in the hundred of
FAWLEY, Fawley division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON,
4 miles (S. by E.) from New Alresford, containing
325 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry
and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's
books at £19. 11. 10., and in the patronage of the
Bishop of Winchester. The church is dedicated to All
Saints. A charity school was founded and endowed in
1729, by William Blake: the annual income is about
£ 140, for which sum upwards of fifty boys and girls
are instructed. This parish is within the jurisdiction of
the Cheyney Court held at Winchester every Thursday,
for the recovery of debts to any amount.
