HITCHAM, a parish in the hundred of COSFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 1 mile (N.N.W.) from Bildeston, containing 965 inhabitants. The living is a rectoi-y, in the archdeaconry of Sudbury, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £26. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to All Saints. There are almshouses appropriated by Sir George Waldegrave, in 1663, for two poor persons. William Burkitt, a biblical writer/ though commonly considered a native of Hitcham in the county of North ampton, was born here in 1650; he died in 1703.
