HOCKER1NG, a parish in the hundred of MITFORD,
county of NORFOLK, 5 miles (E.) from East Dereham,
containing 392 inhabitants. The living is a rectory,
united to that of Mattishall-Burgh, in the archdeaconry
of Norfolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's
books at £7 3.4. The church, dedicated to St. Michael,
has a round tower. Here was anciently a castle, this
having been the principal manor of the Barony of Rye.
