HOGSTHORPE, a parish in the Marsh division of the hundred of CALCEWORTH, parts of LINDSEY, county of LINCOLN, 6 miles (15. S. E.) from Alford, containing 591 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £10, endowed with £200 royal bounty, and £1000 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Bishop of Lincoln. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists.
