HOLME, a chapelry in that part of the parish of WHALLEY which is in the higher division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 3 miles (S. E. by S.) from Burnley. The population is returned with the parish. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £120 parliamentary grant. - Whittaker, Esq. was patron in 1822. William Whittaker, a controversial divine,- was born here in 1548; he died in 1595.
