HOLYWELL, a township in the parish of EARSDON,
eastern division of CASTLE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND,
5 miles (N. N. W.) from North Shields, conr
taining 100 inhabitants. There is a medicinal spring,
called St. Mary's Well, the water of which becomes
pure by the infusion of galls.
