HORLEY, a parish in the hundred of BLOXHAM, county of OXFORD, 3 miles (N."W.) from Banbury, containing, with the chapelry of Hornton, 846 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage with that of Hornton, in the jurisdiction of the peculiar court of Banbury, belonging to the Dean and Chapter of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £ 16. 13. 4., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Ethelreda. Here is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. A free school was endowed by Michael Harding, in the reign of Charles I., with houses and land: the present income is £42 per annum.
