HORLEY, a parish in the first division of the hundred
of REIGATE, county of SURREY, 5 miles (S.S.E.)
from Reigate, containing 1063 inhabitants. The living
is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Surrey,
and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's books at
£14. 1. 0., and in the patronage of the Governors of
Christ's Hospital. The church is dedicated to St. Bartholomew.
