HORNINGHOLD, a parish in the hundred of GARTREE, county of LEICESTER, 4 miles (W. S. W.) from Uppingham, containing 97 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Leicester, and diocese of Lincoln, rated in the king's books at £6. 16. S., and endowed with £400 royal bounty. Mrs. Holland was patroness in 1813. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, is ancient and curious, exhibiting specimens of pure Saxon architecture. There is a chapel of ease at Blaston, in this parish.
