HURST, a township in the parish of WOODHORN,
eastern division of MORPETH ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND,
5 miles (E. by N.) from Morpeth, containing
42 inhabitants. Hurst castle was one of the
fortresses erected in this part of the kingdom to repel
the incursions of the Scots.
