KENNET (EAST), a parish in the hundred of SELKLEY, county of WILTS, 5 miles (W. S. W.) from Marlborough, containing 94 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Wilts, and diocese of Salisbury, endowed with £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of Richard Mathews, Esq. The river Kennet rises near the village, and is noted for the excellence of its water, which is used in brewing the famous ale known by that name. Within the parish is a barrow terminating in a- point, and called Selbury bin.
