KILLINGTON, a chapelry in the parish of KIRKBYLONSDALE, LONSDALE ward, county of WESTMORLAND, 7 miles (N.) from Kirkby-Lonsdale, containing 335 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Richmond, and diocese of Chester, endowed with £400 private benefaction, and £600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Kirkby- Lonsdale. The chapel was re-pewed in 1824. A school is endowed with £7 per annum, for which, and trifling quarterages, sixteen children receive instruction: the school-room was built by subscription. Killington hall, now a farm-house, is an ancient tower-building, long the residence of the Pickerings.
