KINGSTON-BAGPUZE, a parish in the hundred of OCK, county of BERKS, 6 miles (W.) from Abing don, containing 327 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at £10. 6. 5., and in the patronage of the President and Fellows of St. John's College, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. James. At New-Bridge, in this parish, are held two annual fairs, on March 31st and September 28th. A sharp skirmish took place here between the army of the parliament and the royalists, when the former were defeated and driven back, on May 27th, 1644. A charity school has been founded here, but it has no permanent endowment, being supported by annual donations, amounting to about £20.
