KINNERLEY, a parish in the hundred of OSWESTRY, county of SALOP, 65 miles (B. E. by S.) from Oswestry, containing 1167 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of St. Asaph, rated in the king's books at £7 6. 8., and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The ancient castle was demolished during the minority of Henry III., by Llewellyn, Prince of Wales, who agreed to make reparation for the act, though it was never habitable afterwards.
