KIRK-BURN, a parish in the Bainton-Beacon division of the wapentake of HARTHILL, East riding of the county of YORK, comprising the townships of East Burn, Kirk-Burn, South Burn, and Tibthorp, and containing 455 inhabitants, of which number, 119 are in the township of Kirk-Burn, 4 miles (S.W. by W.) from Great Driffield. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of the East riding, and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £4. 10. 2., endowed with £ 600 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Crown. The church is dedicated to St. Mary.
