LANGO, a chapelry in the parish and lower division of the hundred of BLACKBURN, county palatine of LANCASTER, 5 miles (S. W. by S.) from Clitheroe. The population is returned with the parish. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Chester, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £600 royal bounty, and £ 600 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Vicar of Blackburn. Here, in 798, Duke Wada fought an unsuccessful battle against Ardulph, King of Northumberland.
