LAVERSTOKE, a parish in the hundred of OVERTON,
Kingsclere division of the county of SOUTHAMPTON,
2 miles (E. N. E.) from Whitchurch, containing
101 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry
and diocese of Winchester, rated in the king's
books at £8. 10., and in the patronage of William Portal,
Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The
river Test runs through the parish. Laverstoke is within
the jurisdiction of the Cheyney Court held at Winchester
every Thursday, for the recovery of debts to
any amount.
