LEATHLEY, a parish in the upper division of the wapentake of CLARO, West riding of the county of YORK, comprising the townships of Castley and Leathley, and containing 422 inhabitants, of which number, 312 are in the township of Leathley, 2 miles (N. E. by E.) from Otley. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of York, rated in the king's books at £7. 2. 8., and in the patronage of the Crown. A free school was founded and endowed with a rent-charge of £ 12, in 1769, by Anne Hitch; all children who apply are admitted.
