LEXDEN, a parish in the liberty of COLCHESTER, county of ESSEX, 1 mile (W.) from Colchester, containing 932 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the jurisdiction of the Commissary of Essex and Herts, concurrently with the Consistorial Court of the Bishop of London, rated in the king's books at £12. - Papillon, Esq. was patron in 1804. The church, dedicated to St. Leonard, has lately received an addition of three hundred and fifty free sittings, the Incorporated Society for the enlargement of churches and chapels having granted £500 towards defraying the expense.
