LINDLEY, a hamlet in the parish of HICHAM on
the HILL, hundred of SPARKENHOE, county of LEICESTER,
5 miles (W.byN.) from Hinckley. The population
is returned with the parish. Here are the ruins of
an ancient chapel. Mr. William Burton, the Leicestershire
antiquary and historian, and his brother Robert,
author of the Anatomy of Melancholy, were natives of
this place, the former born in 1575, and the latter
in 1576.
