LINEHAM, a parish in the hundred of KINGSBRIDGE, county of WILTS, 4 miles (S. W.) from Wootton- Basset, containing 910 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Wilts, and diocese of Salisbury, endowed with £ 1400 parliamentary grant. H. Long, Esq. was patron in 1815. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. Ralph Broome, in 1715, bequeathed £450, the income to be applied in teaching thirty children. In the vicinity is a farm-house, which occupies the site of Bradenstoke priory, founded, about 1142, by Walter de Evreux, on de Saresbiae, for Augustine monks, and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin.
