LITCHBOROUGH, a parish in the hundred of FAWSLEY, county of NORTHAMPTON, 5 miles (N. W.) from Towcester, containing 393 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £16. 9. 7, and in the patronage of the Rev. W. A. Taylor. The church is dedicated to St. Martin. A schoolmaster receives £25 per annum from Lady Katherine Leveson's charity, for educating all the poor children of the parish that are sent to him. Litchborough was one of the four British garrisoned towns taken by the Saxons in 571.
