MARDALE, a chapelry partly in the parish of
BAMPTON, and partly in that of SHAP, WEST ward,
county of WESTMORLAND, 11 miles (W. N. W.) from
Orton. The population is returned with the respective
parishes. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry
and diocese of Carlisle, endowed with £800
royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Vicar of
Shap, in which parish the chapel is situated.
