MATSON, a parish in the middle division of the hundred of DUDSTONE-and-KING'S-BARTON, county of GLOUCESTER, 2 miles (S. by E.) from Gloucester, containing 35 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, hi the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester, rated hi the king's books at £3. 16. 5v endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Gloucester. The manor-house was built by Sir Ambrose WDloughby, Knt., in the reign of Elizabeth, and during the siege of Gloucester became the head-quarters of Charles I.
