MAWNAN, a parish in the hundred of KERRIER, county of CORNWALL, 5 miles (S. by W.) from Falmouth, containing 536 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Cornwall, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £14. 16. 3., and in the patronage of John Rogers, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mawnan. There is a place of worship for Wesleyan Methodists. The parish is bounded on the south-east by the English channel, where are two small open bays, called Frisk and Bream bays, and on the south is Helford river, an arm of the sea about a mile wide. A day school for poor children is principally supported by voluntary contributions.
