MELDON, a parish in the western division of CASTLE ward, county of NORTHUMBERLAND, 6 miles (W. S.W.) from Morpeth, containing 156 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Northumberland, and diocese of Durham, rated in the king's books at £4. 7. 11., endowed with £400 private benefaction, £200 royal bounty, and £300 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Durham. The church is dedicated to St. John the Evangelist.
