METTINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of WANGFORD, county of SUFFOLK, 2 miles (E.) from Bungay, containing 349 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Suffolk, and diocese of Norwich, rated in the Icing's books at £6. 17. 3L Mrs. Safford was patroness in 1824. The church fs dedicated to All Saints. In the reign of Richard II., a master and chaplains were translated, by royal license, from the college of Raveningham, in Norfolk, to Mettingham castle; in 1535, their revenue amounted to £202. 7 5.
