MIDDLETON, a parish in the Lynn division of the hundred of FREEBRIDGE, county of NORFOLK, 3 miles (B. E.) from Lynn-Regis, containing 665 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Norwich, rated in the king's books at £7, and in the patronage of the Rev. P. S. Wood, L.L.D. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. Here are quarries of a rough stone well adapted for buildings of an inferior description. In the village is a high mount, probably the site of an ancient castle j and in the neighbourhood are the remains of a mansion of the Lords Scales, built in the reign of Henry VI.
