MIDDLETON-CHENEY, a parish in the hundred of KING'S-SUTTON, county of NORTHAMPTON, 3 miles (E. by N.) from Banbury, containing 1398 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Northampton, and diocese of Peterborough, rated in the king's books at £31. 11. 3., and in the patronage of the Principal and Fellows of Brasenose College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to All Saints, has a fine tower and spire, and a rich porch. There are places of worship for Baptists and Wesleyan Methodists. The tenure prevailing in this lordship is that, when estates descend in the female line, the eldest sister inherits. In the great civil war a battle was fought here, in which the army of the parliament was defeated.
