MISERDEN, a parish in the hundred of BISLEY, county of GLOUCESTER, 5 miles (E. S. E.) from Painswick, containing 514 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Gloucester, rated in the king's books at £8. 13. 4., and in the patronage of Sir Edwin Sandys, Bart. The church is dedicated to St. Andrew. There are quarries of limestone and some tile-kilns in the parish. Of Miserden castle little more remains than loose fragments of stone strewed about its ancient site.
