MORETON (NORTH), a parish in the hundred of MORETON, county of BERKS, 4 miles (W.) from Wallingford, containing 348 inhabitants. The living is a discharged vicarage, in the archdeaconry of Berks, and diocese of Salisbury, rated in the king's books at &1. 17. 8., endowed with £200 private benefaction, and £200 royal bounty, and in the patronage of the Archdeacon of Berks. The church is dedicated to All Saints. In Stapleton's chantry chapel, founded before 1467, are two old tombs of dignified ecclesiastics, with proces* sional crosses, but without dates: there are also two ancient mutilated tombs, with Saxon inscriptions.
